Well, it's been a few minutes since we've been out on the website. Yikes, I hope I'm not paying for this site... 😬
Needless to say, it's been a busy year so far. Sure, work has been busy (new job for Mr. Folks, going full-time plus an acquisition for Mrs. Folks). Family stuff is always busy - you'd think that with only 2 kids at home it would be less busy. Well, I guess it is less busy. But still lots to do. A few house projects. Our little side project is quite busy! More on that in a minute. And did someone say we went viral?
So.... back to the numbers. what do they have in common?
8 - the number of months since we last wrote (or paid attention to) this poor website.
2 - the number of additional 3D printers we've had to add this year - we now have a tiny 3D print farm!
200 - the number of orders we've filled on our Etsy store since January (#200 was today!) This is why we had to buy more printers!
916, as in thousand - 916,300 - the number of views we got on our largest viral TikTok video. It was about our garden - and specifically, about a potato experiment we did.
13,600 - how many TikTok followers we gained after that viral video
1 - how many new fiancees our #4 child has. Yep, get to do the wedding thing again! Though not until next year.
In other words, some of the fun and interesting things that happened to us in 2021. Now on to a couple proof points!
First, our print farm. We have added two more Prusas - a Mini+ and another MK3S+ (just arrived Thursday!). We built a Multi-Material Unit so we can print things in multiple colors automagically. We did all this because we've added 3D-printed products to our Etsy store and getting a bunch of orders. It's not a huge farm yet but the printers run all day and night, all week, sometimes! We even had to change up how we had everything organized.
The printer on the left is printing something secret, the printer on the right is printing its' own parts, and the Mini is printing some holiday cheer. It's been fun learning how to improve skills and be more efficient!
Next, how about that TikTok video? We'd been having some fun with TikTok and were making garden videos among other things. Well, one Saturday we decided to create one about a potato experiment we were doing, and TikTok went crazy. CRAZY. 916,300 views give or take, 33,600 likes, and only 600 comments. I won't complain about the lack of comments - almost 55% of them were people asking "did you know you can buy potatoes?", 35% were complaining about the money we spent to do it and calling us names, and the other 10% were nice.
